Rulership, also called domicile, is a traditional association between a planet and a sign. Exaltation is a different traditional dignity: a placement in which the planet is considered honoured. These terms describe roles within an interpretive system, not whether a person is good, fortunate, or competent.
The seven traditional bodies have established Western rulership and exaltation tables. This volume retains those assignments, including Mars with Scorpio, Jupiter with Pisces, and Saturn with Aquarius. Modern associations add Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus respectively. No universally accepted exaltation scheme exists for these later additions, so their exaltation fields are left empty.
Use dignity after learning the planet’s basic function. It supplies context, not a final grade. A placement described as difficult still has many possible expressions, shaped by the rest of the chart and lived circumstances.
